Why NeoGraft?

Most people don’t want to lose their hair. Through the years, in the effort to have a lusher appearing mane, we have seen people resort to wigs, weaves, and other hair restoration measures, most of which are temporary.

Natural Results

  • The goal is permanent, undetectable, natural looking, thicker hair, and the only way to achieve this is with hair transplantation. In the past, hair transplantation was considered a “big procedure” and sometimes resulted in the “pluggy look”.
  • Until now, the only way to acquire the hair to transplant has been to remove a large strip of hair from the back of the scalp where the hair is thick. The wound had to be closed with sutures or more commonly staples. The resulting scars were often obvious, painful, and left much of the scalp with numbness.
  • Years ago, when I first started my practice in plastic surgery, I performed several hair transplants using the older technique and it was uniformly disappointing to the patients and to me, so we didn’t do the procedure anymore.

How is it different?

  • NeoGraft is an automated and performed with new technology. The equipment takes micro-grafts or follicular unit extractions from the back of the head, each graft containing 1, 2 or 3 hair follicles and then inserts them into the recipient’s scalp.
  • FUE (Follicular Unit Extract) is the best technique for performing a hair transplant that looks entirely natural.
  • The automated NeoGraft takes each micrograft containing from 1 to 3 hairs individually, leaving a very small 1 millimeter hole which closes in a day or two with no sutures or staples.
  • Each micrograft is taken individually.
  • The result is no scar, faster recovery, less operating time, less discomfort, and a higher graft “take” because of less follicular transaction. Generally up to 2,500 grafts can be taken and transplanted at one sitting.

NeoGraft’s advantages include:

  • No scar, minimal pain, minimal numbness, better adoption of the grafts, a more natural appearance (i.e. no “pluggy look”, a shorter procedure time and up to 2,500 grafts at one sitting.
  • In addition, no dressing is necessary and patients who have undergone both techniques say the difference is “night and day”, it’s more comfortable and the down-time is minimal.

How Neograft simplifies the FUE technique

  • NeoGraft simplifies the FUE procedure because the extraction is automated, removing each 1 millimeter micrograft, containing from 1 to 3 hair follicles individually. There is no longer the need to remove a large strip of scalp from the posterior scalp, which requires staples or sutures.
  • The manual technique then requires several personnel to divide the strip of scalp into micrografts under magnification on a separate table which may take hours, and usually only 750 grafts can be taken in one session. The NeoGraft micrografts are ready to transplant after extraction. This saves time and personnel and equates to shorter surgery time for the patient and personnel.

Other Uses for NeoGraft hair transplantation

  1. Many women pluck their eyebrows to the point they cease to grow. These hairs can be replaced with the NeoGraft System. The hair grafts are from the back of the scalp, so they will have to be trimmed occasionally because they will continue to grow. The brow hairs must be replaced with single follicle grafts, which are perfect for NeoGraft.
  2. Loss of hair from burns can occur due to harsh chemicals on the scalp as well as accidental flame or other types of burns. These scars can be unsightly and embarrassing. The NeoGraft System is ideal for correction of this problem because the blood supply in these areas may be deficient, and the “take” rate using NeoGraft is about 99%.
  3. Sideburns and hair loss from face lifts is now easily treated with the NeoGraft System. In this situation, as well as other areas like the brow, the hairs must be grafted at an angle to mimic the direction of the recipient site hairs to look completely natural.
