Should a man of 30 or less with a receding hairline use NeoGraft or any hair transplant method to lower his hairline on his forehead?

My belief is that it is not a good idea.

Why? Because if you have significant hair loss at such a young age, that is an indication that you will lose much more hair as you grow older. You are born with only 100,000 to 125,000 hair follicles, and we definitely don’t want to waste hair follicles that might be needed at a later date as you lose more hair. All follicles must be utilized efficiently looking at long-term needs.

Generally, a young man with a receding hair line should replace only the hair in the receding areas and any other areas of hair loss and need, such as the top or crown. In the central part of his frontal hair line, hair follicle grafts should be used to maintain the present location of his most forward hair follicles, even though hair may be sparse. In the hair line area, single hair follicle grafts must be used to maintain a completely natural appearance.

In addition, every effort should be made to prevent further hair loss with the use of Minoxidil (Rogaine) and fenasteride (Propecia). The Propecia can have some undesirable side effects, such as reduced sexual performance. However, the Propecia has a very short life-time in the body, so there should be no long-term untoward effects if it is discontinued. The combination of Minoxidil and Fenasteride stops or greatly reduces hair loss. It is not needed for the NeoGraft, because the hair in grafts will grow regardless, but the combination of medications will help keep you from losing your existing non-grafted hairs.
